share your story and create change
We know that there are many misconceptions and judgements in the community about Islam and the experiences of young Muslim women. And we want to change it.
The recent hijab ban in France for girls and young women is an example of how the wearing of the hijab has over simplified the unique and individual stories of young women and their relationship with their faith. We want to change this and create more understanding and awareness in the broader community of our stories and experiences!
We are doing this through a portrait photography + storytelling exhibition. This will involve 10-15 young Muslim women from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages and experiences participating in a photoshoot and having their stories recorded. These photos will be displayed as an exhibition in festivals, schools and other arts locations across SE QLD in 2021, as well as, online and in print.
There will also be opportunities to be part of these exhibitions through interactive panel discussions.
Important Dates:
Registrations close Friday 17th June.
Project meeting and planning with selected group - 19th June 2pm - 4pm at 91 Wembley Rd, Logan Central.
Photoshoot - Late July (TBC)
